New Year Time :)

       NEW YEAR FESTIVAL IN SRI LANKA

                      [Which falls  in April]

This is the Spring season in Sri lanka.Flowers are blooming ,Almost all the lands are covered with green grass,Birds are singing.It's the best time to enjoy the wonderful environment and the scenarios  here.

This is the month which people celebrate the most important cultural event of the year.That is the New year festival. Unlike most other countries Sri lanka celebrates the dawn of the new year in this month.As they believe  the 'solar calendar' from the time in memorial.According to their solar calender there are  12 zodiac sings in the calender.the sun takes 365 days to pass all these sings in a one circle.Usually they celebrate this new year festival when the sun passes the sign  Pisces and enter to the sign  Aries.Which means the end of a one circle revolution of the sun.

In this year the New year  day falls in 13th of April.In this very special day all the people in the country do their things according to the auspicious time.The day before that is the 'old year day '.In that they people finish their normal day to day activities and do there cleanings before that day.then there is a special time between the two days which people avoid their day to day activities.In his time period they do their religious activities and also some traditional games.

After that the most important occasion " New year dawn".People celebrate this auspicious time together with fire crackers and lot of traditional activities.Then there is a special time to lit their cooking places (cookers).After that they prepare special Milk Rice & some curies for the next auspicious time.The next  auspicious time is for the eating.They arrange dining table with these Milk rice & curies, early prepared sweets and also with different kinds of bananas with them.Then the eating time.After that there are some auspicious times to money transaction and to began their works according to blessed  auspicious times. For this money transaction time they give and take money among them as a symbolism.
